“If you got pregnant
now, would you keep it?”
I don’t know why I
said that. We’d been arguing, and I
guess I wanted to pull the conversation onto her. All I really wanted to know was if she loved
me. It’s stupid, we’d been going out for
two years, and I still wasn’t convinced that she did. Using the pregnancy thing was a cheap and
crummy trick.
I was about to
apologise when she turned to me with tears in her eyes:
“What do you mean
‘if’?”
