NEWS: TV Still Believes in American Gods

From IO9: Neil Gaiman's epic tome American Gods, which looks at the Gods of old waging a war against the new Gods of the modern world, has been in development for some time over at HBO, the cable station which brought us Homeland, Girls and Extras. But HBO recently ditched the show and it was picked up by FremantleMedia, producers of ...erm...Pop Idol.

This isn't necessarily a bad move, but lovers of the book are equally excited and apprehensive to see the grand scale of Gaiman's imagination played out over the small screen. Some claim it should be a film (Hey, if Peter Jackson can make a trilogy out of The Hobbit, there could be a whole saga in American Gods), others say to leave it alone.

Can a book ever transfer well to the screen, satisfying new viewers and readers of the original work? Some say the efforts of putting A Game of Thrones onto TV are laudible, but a quick Google will find the negative points. Let us know in the comments if you've loved a TV show as much as the book, or if you think the medium is dead as disco.
