NEW COURSE: Creative Writing: CW2

We've been running Creative Writing Classes to great success here at StoryWorld, and we're doing more! Our second run of fun sessions start 1st May 2014 at the Arts Centre, East Street, Crediton, Devon.

FAQ:
What is the aim of the course?
To have fun! Writing and creating is meant to be exciting, and we want you to use the methods taught in the course to increase your productivity and creativity, so that sitting down to a blank piece of paper won't be so daunting. We also believe that half the job of becoming a writer is figuring out how you write. The exercises and sessions on CW1 will help you to define your best way of working and creating.

I don't have time to practice in between sessions. Does that matter?/Will there be homework?
No. There may be tasks set between sessions, but this will only be a development exercise for you to try at home, and no pressure to bring it in the following week to be assessed.

Do I need previous experience of writing?
None at all. An enjoyment of writing recreationally would serve you well, but certainly no professional experience is required. You may want to join the course to find out how to start writing, or if you already have writing experience, to try your hand at different styles, or even to find your 'voice'.

Do I need to be a reader?
No. A love of stories and writing is advantageous, but don't worry if you're not the sort of person who reads voraciously. You may choose to use the techniques taught in this course to inspire another type of writing, such as screen writing, poetry, non-fiction or theatre.

How will I be assessed?
There is no formal assessment, such as an exam or coursework, but at the beginning of the course, you will be asked to fill out a personal development plan to help you focus on the things you want to get out of the course, and the goals you would like to set yourself. At the end of the course, your tutor will discuss this with you and suggest other goals you may like to follow up on after the course has finished.

What topics will I study?
The course starts on the 1st May 2014 and covers the following topics:

1.            1st May           – Inspiration Everywhere
2.            8th May          – Poetry
3.            22nd May        – The Hero’s Journey
