You should really pop over to the excellent Awfully Big Blog Adventure to look at this wonderful post from Sarah Macintyre (Jampires, Cakes in Space). It managed to say everything I thought about the subject but wasn't eloquent enough to vocalise. (and I call myself a writer...)
EDIT TO ADD: This great piece of news in The Bookseller had Sarah pointing out that her work with Philip Reeve on the Oliver and the Seawigs book should be counted as Co-Authorship as they storylined it together and that the illustrations count as part of the book and story. This would make Macintyre eligible for the Carnegie Prize! I couldn't agree more, and love it when things get disrupted!
